Saucer magnolia is the big tulip-shaped magnolia blossom, read as a sweet floral with a lemon lift and a green edge. It is not the lemony magnolia already published. Two sources call out a spicy note on top of the flower, and that spice is what separates it from every other magnolia in this vocabulary.

Scent Profile

Floral is the lead and both sources put it first: 'sweet and floral, combined with fresh green notes' from the trade glossary, 'sweet, clean, and moist' from the blog. This is petal florality, not a white-flower indole. Citrus is the second real claim, the 'floral-citrus' and 'lemony freshness' the glossary traces to the star-magnolia parent, and it is the facet that keeps this note inside the magnolia family. White_floral carries the waxy, thick-petalled part of the flower that the glossary calls 'waxy'. Green is stated outright as 'fresh green notes' in the opening. Lactonic is the heart's 'faintly creamy texture, recalling freshly cut flowers'. Sweet_vanillic is the 'warmer, slightly richer sweetness' the glossary sets against star magnolia. Fresh_spice is the 'distinct spicy note' the blog names twice. Neither source says which kind of spice, so the weight is split with warm_spice and both spreads are set at 0.24, wider than anything else in the vector. Origin

Magnolia x soulangeana, the garden hybrid of Magnolia denudata and Magnolia liliiflora, planted across Europe, North America and East Asia for its early pink-and-white flowers. No commercial essential oil or absolute exists for it. Everything sold under the name is compounded. Premiere Peau's glossary is the only trade source found with an olfactive description, and it attributes the lemony brightness to the star-magnolia side of the parentage and the rounder sweetness to the other side.

The one Parfumo pyramid that carries it, Avon Golden Notes - Moonwind, puts it in the heart beside coconut, gardenia and rum over musk, sandalwood and vanilla. Use it where magnolia is wanted sweeter and spicier than the published citrus-led magnolia, and less powdery than pink magnolia.
