Scent Profile

This vector is thin on purpose. Read the confidence note before using it. Floral leads because the referent is a flower and because the three brands that print the term are selling a flower, but no source describes the florality, so it leads without a quote behind it. Nutty is benzaldehyde, the single largest volatile in both male and female flowers at 49 to 74 per cent. PubChem gives benzaldehyde a "bitter almond odor". It is held below floral because relative content is not perceived intensity. Aldehydic is the same finding said as a class: aldehydes are 61 to 82 per cent of the total. Green is (E)-2-hexenal, which PubChem calls a "strong fruity, green, vegetable-like aroma". Hexenal has a very low odour threshold, so it may carry further than its percentage suggests, and that is part of why the spreads here are and wider. Fruity is the other half of the hexenal descriptor plus the melon reading that buyers of the term expect. Below the line, aquatic_ozonic is that same commercial melon-and-cucumber reading, held low because its only source is a candle listing.

Origin

Melon blossom is the flower of Cucumis melo. No supplier sells an extract and no perfumery trade source describes it, so the note is a reconstruction. The only chemistry found is a pollination study in Insects (MDPI) that measured 77 volatiles from melon flowers for a bee-antenna experiment. Aldehydes made up 61 to 82 per cent of the total and benzaldehyde alone made up 49 to 74 per cent, with (E)-2-hexenal and (E)-2-octenal behind it.

Usage in Perfumery

A heart note in fresh fruity-florals. Three Parfumo placements across three brands is the whole measured usage, and the commercial reading of the name is softer and more aquatic than the real flower: a WoodWick candle sold as Melon Blossom lists "juicy melon, cucumber, and baobab traces with violet leaf and lemon blossom".
