Jarana flower is the bloom of Lecythis lurida, an Amazonian tree in the Brazil-nut family. In perfumery it is a reconstruction of the flower's smell, not an extract. Two sources describe it differently. Fragrantica calls it a vibrant, watery and intense floral. A perfumery glossary calls it a light tropical white floral: jasmine-adjacent and honeyed, but thinner and greener than jasmine.

Jarana flower reads as a light, tropical white floral, jasmine-adjacent but thinner and greener than jasmine. It comes from an equatorial bloom rather than a temperate garden flower, with a soft floral body underneath. A honeyed sweetness runs through it. A green, vegetal undertone keeps it fresh, and the whole thing carries a watery freshness, like river water.

Lecythis lurida (Lecythidaceae), also carried under the synonyms Lecythis jarana, Holopyxidium jarana and Eschweilera serrulata. The species grows in terra firme rain forest in the lower Amazon and in the Atlantic forests of northern South America. It is known commercially as a timber, which is how ITTO's database records it. The perfumery note comes from Natura, which calls its jarana material a 'bioessence' made with its own technology for reproducing forest smells. Première Peau says the flower is not widely extracted or traded, and that the note is usually rebuilt from jasmine-type molecules such as benzyl acetate with indole at low doses. The same page says it has not verified its extraction data. So this note describes a perfumer's reconstruction, not a measured smell of the flower.

Usage in Perfumery

Used in one perfume on Fragrantica: Natura Ekos Ryo Vivo (2024), a watery floral, where it sits in the heart with orange blossom, rose and jasmine. No Parfumo placements were found. It suits a composition that wants tropical atmosphere without the narcotic density of jasmine or tuberose. Fragrantica says its smell recalls the fresh waters of Brazilian rivers.
