The ripe fruit of Syzygium jambos. It smells of rose first and of crisp fruit second. The flesh is watery and firm rather than juicy, with a thin waxy skin, and the whole thing is lighter and more transparent than either a rose or an apple. Premiere Peau calls it a delicate rose garden filtered through a faint pear-skin crispness.

Floral leads and all four sources agree the fruit smells of rose. Wikipedia calls the ripe fruit's bouquet strong and pleasant; Rayon de Serre calls the tree's rose fragrance astonishing; Gardenish reads the flesh as rosewater and apple combined. It is set below the rose note's 0.85 because Premiere Peau draws the comparison itself and puts this one lower: 'less heady than rose absolute itself'. Wikipedia's tasting description also calls the rose scent mild. Fruity is the crisp apple and pear character every source names, and it is below the apple note's 0.72 for a stated reason: two sources describe the flesh as crisp and watery and Premiere Peau calls it 'less juicy than lychee', so this is texture-fruit rather than juice-fruit. Green rests mainly on Wikipedia's comparison, 'like a cross between nashi and bell pepper'. Bell pepper is a hard green claim, but it is one source and a taste note, so the facet is kept moderate with a 0.16 spread. Premiere Peau's 'pear-skin crispness' and Gardenish's 'thin, waxy skin' support it from a second direction. Origin

Syzygium jambos, family Myrtaceae, a tropical tree. Despite the English name it is not related to the apple, which is Malus domestica in the Rosaceae, nor to the rose. The name comes only from the fruit's floral bouquet. Wikipedia records that the ripe fruit has a strong, pleasant floral bouquet, which is where 'rose apple' and 'pomarrosa' both come from. There is no commercial extract. Premiere Peau states the note is a reconstruction built from cis-rose oxide, 2-phenylethanol and apple-pear esters.

Usage in Perfumery

Attested on 5 Fragrantica entries, none on Parfumo. Use it where a rose needs to be made fruity and transparent without going to lychee, which sources here describe as juicier, or to rose absolute, which Premiere Peau calls heavier. It is a bridge material between a floral heart and a fruity top.
