Grapeflower is a fantasy floral accord named after the blossom of the grapevine. No grape flower extract is sold for perfumery. The best-known build, Caudalie's Fleur de Vigne, defines its grape flower as white rose and watermelon. It reads as a light, fresh floral with a watery fruit edge and a touch of green.

Scent Profile

Grapeflower smells of a soft, light floral, with a watery fruit note close behind, like watermelon. It is fresh rather than heady, and not indolic. A faint green, sappy note runs through it. Underneath sits a faint musky warmth.

What is ScentArt?

Origin

Vitis flowers are tiny and green, and open for a few days in June. They do have a scent. In Cabernet Sauvignon the flowers give off mainly sesquiterpenes such as valencene and farnesene. These are made in the pollen and released mostly in the early morning. No grape flower extract exists for perfumery, so the note is built from other materials.

Usage in Perfumery

A heart note in fresh floral compositions, usually with citrus above and light woods below. Caudalie's Fleur de Vigne is the reference build: bergamot, mandarin and grapefruit on top, grape flower in the middle, cedar and sandalwood in the base. It gives a light, green-tinged floral with a fruity, watery edge. It is chosen when a rose or a jasmine would read as too heavy.
