Chinese magnolia is a fresh white floral with a soft fruity side. The oil traded under this name is mostly linalool, so it reads clean, light and a little green. Suppliers name green apple and melon for the fruit. A soft creamy sweetness sits under the petals.

What is ScentArt?

Origin

The name points at the white-flowered magnolias of China. The material traded as magnolia flower oil, China type, is steam-distilled from Michelia x alba flowers. ISO 17382:2007 sets its linalool content at 50 to 72%. The Yulan magnolia, Magnolia denudata, has no commercial oil, so a perfume that means it uses an accord. Schisandra chinensis, the magnolia vine, shares the common name but is a fruit and a different note.

Usage in Perfumery

A floral heart material. Pyramids set it among other white flowers: gardenia, ylang-ylang, jasmine, tiare and lily of the valley. Tom Ford Venetian Bergamot (2015) puts it in the heart with gardenia and ylang-ylang. Louis Vuitton Apogée (2016) pairs it with lily of the valley, jasmine and rose. Some pyramids set it beside green tea or oolong.
