About
Pan de Muerto is the Mexican sweet bread baked for Day of the Dead. As a note it is the smell of that bread: butter and sugar in a yeasted dough, scented with orange blossom water or orange zest, and often with anise. It is a bakery gourmand with a floral top, not a caramel or a milk accord.
Scent Profile
Sweet vanillic leads. The Fragrantica entry opens on 'melted butter, sugar, and vanilla' and every recipe source names sugar first. White floral is the orange blossom water that gives this bread its signature, described as 'the scent of orange blossom, sugar, and tradition', but the same Fragrantica entry calls the floral-citrus side 'subtle', so it sits below the sweetness rather than over it. Lactonic is the melted butter. Nutty is the baked crust and crumb; no source gives it a descriptor word, so it is inferred from the referent and carries the widest spread here. Citrus is orange zest. Fresh spice is the anise, with cooling mentholic for the liquorice-cool edge that the published anise note carries. Floral and powdery are the icing-sugar dusting and the softness around the orange blossom.

Origin
Mexico. The bread is made for Dia de Muertos and set on the ofrenda. Recipes use azahar (orange blossom water) or orange zest, anise seed, butter, sugar and egg. In perfumery the note is a built accord, not an extract. No supplier markets a Pan de Muerto base under that name.
Usage in Perfumery
Used in gourmand compositions that want bread and sugar rather than caramel or chocolate. It reads as warm and edible with a bright floral-citrus lift, so it sits well over vanilla and musk and under orange blossom or neroli. Two Fragrantica placements are recorded and no Parfumo placements.
