Soda is the sweet fizzy soft drink read as a note. In perfumery it is a built accord, not a distilled material. Both published readings of it are cola-shaped: caramelised sugar and vanilla carrying the weight, a citrus twist over the top, and a carbonation effect that reads as prickle rather than as a smell of its own.

Scent Profile

sweet_vanillic is the note and both sources lead there: 'rich caramel' from Snif, 'the fizzy sweetness of Coca-Cola, enriched by caramel' plus 'warm vanilla' from DOOP. citrus is the twist over the top, named by both as 'zesty citrus' and 'a zesty burst of lime'. lactonic is the 'creamy carbonation' Snif names and the 'creamy undertone reminiscent of ice-cold floats' DOOP names. aldehydic and aquatic_ozonic are the fizz, split between the two facets because neither source says which way carbonation reads and this vocabulary has no bubble facet. warm_spice is the cinnamon, but only one source names it. honeyed is the caramelised half of the caramel, the burnt-sugar edge rather than the vanilla one. Everything below that is thin: sour for DOOP's 'tangy twist', fruity, mineral for carbonic bite that nobody states outright, white_floral for the 'delicate jasmine' DOOP calls a soft note.

Origin

Not a plant or an isolate. Perfumers build the note from caramel and vanillic sweeteners, a citrus top (lime or lemon), a trace of warm spice, and aldehydic or ozonic materials that suggest bubbles. Parfumo files it under 'Beverages' and lists 75 perfumes carrying it, separate from its own 'Cola' and 'Cream soda' pages.

Usage in Perfumery

A gourmand top-to-heart effect. It appears in playful, nostalgic soft-drink fragrances where the brief is the whole drink rather than one fruit. Snif's Soda Snob and the DOOP fragrance oil copied from it are the two commercial readings behind this vector.
