About
Polygonum is the knotweed genus. As a note it is green leaf: verdant and foliage-like, with a peppery lift and damp earth under it. Two trade sources point the name at two different plants, so the vector is held loose.
Scent Profile
Green leads and it is the leafy foliage kind, not a cut-grass or a galbanum bitterness. Perfume Stars opens with 'fresh, green' three times and Fragrantica's own group placement, Greens, herbs and fougeres, agrees independently. Earthy is the 'verdant, earthy' reading of the same source, damp soil under the leaf rather than beetroot or patchouli. Fresh_spice is the 'slightly peppery' claim, and it is the one facet with outside corroboration: Polygonum hydropiper is called water pepper for exactly this pungency. Aromatic_herbal is not stated in prose. It is carried from the Fragrantica group, which names herbs, and it is the weakest of the four named facets for that reason. Below the naming bar, floral is the 'subtle floral undertone' of the tiny clustered blossoms and dry_woody is the late 'hint of woodiness' from the stems, both marked trace by the source. White_floral is held rather than zero on purpose. Alder & Co glosses Polygonum as Solomon's Seal and calls it a sweet white floral, and although that is a different genus, some share of the 8 Fragrantica perfumes may mean that plant.

Origin
Polygonum is the knotweed, smartweed and bistort genus, sprawling herbs with hollow stems and small clustered flowers. No supplier datasheet for a polygonum fragrance material was found. The note is a green herbal reconstruction, not a traded extract. Polygonum hydropiper is called water pepper for its pungency, which is where the peppery reading comes from.
