Rambutan is a fruit note that no fruit was used to make. Premiere Peau states plainly that rambutan has no commercial perfumery extract, so every rambutan in a formula is an accord a perfumer built. That accord is a lychee reconstruction pushed towards grape and rose. It reads sweet and juicy at first, then turns fruity-floral within the hour.

Within the hour it turns fruity-floral, carrying a rose-violet backbone. The whole thing leans tropical, close to lychee itself.

Origin

Nephelium lappaceum, a Southeast Asian tree in the same family as lychee. The fruit is not extracted. The note is therefore built molecule by molecule, from damascenone (CAS 23696-85-7), beta-ionone, gamma-decalactone and a small ester palette.

Usage in Perfumery

A top-note fruit accent in tropical and fruity-floral compositions. Fragrantica records six placements. Parfumo records none, and no brand there uses it. It sits beside lychee, grape and rose materials, which are the same materials it is made from.
