Note Profile
Clean green herb with a clove-pink flower
Soapwort smells gently clean and green, like a plant rather than a bar of soap. A soft, sweet floral note comes from the flowers, with a mild clove-pink spice. Under it sits a slightly bitter, herbaceous side, with a hint of wood and soap flakes.
Read off the wheel, not a label applied to the note.

Soapwort is Saponaria officinalis, a European plant of the carnation family. Its roots and leaves hold saponins, which foam in water and gave the plant its use as a soap. No essential oil or absolute is made. In perfume the note is reconstructed from clean-green and gentle soapy materials.
Perfumers use it as a heart modifier for a gentle, plant-based cleanliness with a faint floral. It suits clean, green and natural-skincare themes. It is softer and more vegetal than a classic soap accord.
