About
Sparkling water as a perfumery note is carbonation rendered as brightness. It is cold and wet, with an aldehydic prickle standing in for the bubbles and a faint mineral edge. It is not a headspace capture of a carbonated bottle. Perfumers build it from short-chain aldehydes and watery ozonic notes over citrus.

Sparkling water reads bright and fizzy, an ozonic, watery effect standing in for carbonation. A sharp aldehydic prickle carries the bubbles. A cold, clean freshness and a faint mineral edge sit close behind, like carbonated mineral water. Citrus sits underneath and gives the accord more energy than a plain water note.

Origin
A constructed note, not a material. Carbon dioxide in water is close to odourless. What the nose reads as fizz is largely trigeminal, a prickle rather than a smell. Premiere Peau names aldehydes C-9, C-10 and C-11, citrus oils, ozonic notes and pink pepper. Some perfumers add a trace of ginger CO2 for the tingle. Other accounts build it on watery molecules such as Calone.
Usage in Perfumery
A top note. Premiere Peau says the sparkle is inherently fleeting and yields to the heart. Fragrantica lists it in its Beverages group, with 18 perfumes on its note page on 2026-10-10. It usually sits in the opening with citrus and aquatic notes.
