Thalassogaia is a Givaudan technology, not a single material. It is a collection of accords built from ScentTrek headspace captures taken at the beach, made to mimic the composition of the marine environment. No source published so far says what any of them smells like, so this vector is an inference from the word marine and nothing else.

Scent Profile

Aquatic_ozonic is the only facet with any support at all, and the support is weak. Neither Givaudan nor Cosmetics Business gives a single odour word. Both say the accords 'mimic the composition of the marine environment' and 'trigger the calming feeling of being near or in water'. That is a statement about where the headspace was captured, not about how the result smells, so the facet is set below the published marine molecules calone and aqual at 0.85 and below the generic aquatic note at 0.78, and it carries a 0.30 spread, the widest in this vector. Mineral and clean_musk are inferences from a beach headspace rather than stated claims, and each is deliberately modest. Below the line: green, floral, fruity and aldehydic are placed only because every published marine accord carries some of them and zeroing them would assert an absence no source states.

Origin

Givaudan, launched 2021 alongside PhytoGaia. Company scientists ran ScentTrek headspace analyses at the coast and used the results to build a family of marine accords. Givaudan says the collection can be used across all fragrance categories, from air care to personal care. Perfumers receive accords under this name rather than one fixed formula.

Usage in Perfumery

A marine base for functional and fine fragrance alike. Because it is a collection rather than one material, two fragrances listing Thalassogaia need not smell alike. Treat a listing as a claim of marine character, not of a specific odour.
