The smell of an aerosol can of paint going off. Cold, metallic and synthetic, with a solvent bite behind it. It arrives all at once and is gone in minutes.

Scent Profile

Mineral leads and is the whole identity: cold, hard, metallic, the read every reviewer reaches for first. 'Smells like spray paint - its metallic synthetic scent tingles the inside of my nose.' It is scored above vinyl (0.25) and gasoline (0.35) and below ink (0.92), because the sources say metallic without saying nothing else is there. Sour is the solvent bite, from 'it quickly turns into solvent and rubbing alcohol' and from the acetone on both ingredient lists. It sits at the same level as industrial-glue's sour, which was scored off the same kind of claim. Below those, four facets are held at 0.10-0.12 and are guesses at where the aromatics land, not claims anybody made: a cold aerosol lift, a faint char, a trace of enamel leatheriness and a little solvent sweetness. Their spreads are as wide as the values, which is the honest way to say nobody described them.

Prepared. No perfumery material is called spray paint. The real product is a solvent aerosol, and the two safety data sheets found describe its odour in two phrases: 'characteristic odor of paint' (Chase Products) and 'Strong (aromatics)' (Harris Paints). Their ingredient lists are acetone, low-odour mineral spirits, naphtha and a propane/n-butane propellant. A perfumer reconstructs that from solvent-reading and metallic-reading synthetics, the same shelf that builds vinyl, ink and gasoline.

Usage in Perfumery

13 Fragrantica perfumes, absent from Parfumo. Used as a shock opening in conceptual work rather than as a body. Parfumo reviewers of Bohoboco Plum Spray Paint, the one carrier that yielded citable outside commentary, describe it as an assault that the plum then has to carry.
