Note Profile
Sand is fine, dry grains of rock, warmed by the sun. In perfumery it is a built accord that evokes a dry, sunlit stretch of sand.
Sand smells faint, dry and mineral, like sun-warmed silica rather than a wet beach. A soft warmth sits under it, close to hot pavement or sun-baked earth, with a dry wood edge. The faintest hint of salt shows at the top. It gives warmth without sweetness.
Read off the wheel, not a label applied to the note.

An abstract accord with no natural extract. Perfumers build it from dry mineral and woody-amber materials. One glossary names Iso E Super, Ambroxan and vetiver. Forum perfumers add traces of a very dry wood such as Norlimbanol, and some add a marine-ozone material for a beach version.
Used as a base note to set a place: a dry, warm mineral ground. Norlimbanol is used in traces, because too much of the dry wood turns it to driftwood.
