Scent Profile

Mineral is almost the whole note and both sources use the same words for it: 'mineral and slightly electric' and 'nuances of blood and mineral tang'. It is mineral doing metal, not mineral doing stone - Premiere Peau's image is 'the taste of a bitten lip'. Earthy is not decoration. Both sources name 1-octen-3-one, which is the mushroom odorant, so the fungal-earthy edge and the metallic edge are the same molecule. Below the naming line, aquatic_ozonic for the pre-storm charge CA Perfume describes as 'the tension which fills the air before disruption', clean_musk for 'somewhat sterile', green for the rose oxide 'green-metallic nuances', aldehydic and animalic for the blood reference, sour for the tang. The whole vector rests on two community glossaries and the spreads are wide to say so.

Origin

Not a natural material. Premiere Peau states it plainly: metal is 'not a naturally extracted material' but 'a perfumery reconstruction or concept accord'. Both glossary sources name the same three building blocks: 1-octen-3-one, the mushroom-metallic ketone; trans-4,5-epoxy-(E)-2-decenal, which the trade calls the 'bloody aldehyde'; and rose oxide for a green-metallic edge. No manufacturer publishes a material branded 'Metal', so what a given perfumer means by the note is their own accord.

Usage in Perfumery

Heart note. CA Perfume places metallic materials as 'heart notes rather than top or base notes, with moderate volatility'. Parfumo attests the term in 13 placements across 10 brands, Comme des Garcons' Odeur 53 and Odeur 71 among them. Fragrantica has no page for it. The note is used to make a composition read cold and man-made, usually against ozonic, mineral or aldehydic materials rather than as a body in its own right.
