Starfish is a conceptual marine note. It is the smell of a tidal pool, not of the animal, and no extract of it exists.

Scent Profile

Starfish smells of salt water and sea air. It is a briny, fresh marine note with a mineral edge, like salt drying on skin after a swim. Some versions push it towards a tidal pool, with iodine and kelp. A faint animal warmth and a faint sulphurous note can sit underneath.

Origin

There is no starfish material. Nothing is extracted from the animal and nothing is traded under the name. The animal is only the inspiration for a marine accord. Premiere Peau describes that accord as seaweed absolute, synthetic marine molecules and animalic modifiers.

Usage in Perfumery

Fragrantica listed 6 perfumes with a starfish note on 2026-10-10, among them Calvin Klein Crave (2002), Demeter Spring Break and Tokyo Milk Sea and Sky. Fragrantica files it under musk, amber and animalic smells, but gives its odour only as a marine note. In practice it names a salty, fresh aquatic accord. Crave lists it as a top note with bergamot. Sea and Sky pairs it with salt and citrus.
