Sweet Clover
Note Profile
About
Sweet clover absolute, an aromatic extract of melilot, the yellow sweet clover plant.
Scent Profile
Sweet clover smells of new-mown hay and coumarin first, warm and deep. A tobacco-like edge runs through the hay. Behind it sits a soft gourmand layer of caramel, almond and a little cocoa. As it dries down it turns more herbal and green, and it stays less powdery than tonka.

ScentArt
Origin
Melilotus officinalis (melilot, yellow sweet clover). It is sold as an absolute. Robertet and Biolandes both make one. Its odour is rich in coumarin.
Usage in Perfumery
Used for its coumarin, hay and tobacco character. Robertet files it in its Tobacco family. Fraterworks offers it as an alternative to tonka bean absolute. It lends a hay-and-tobacco warmth with less powder than tonka.
