About

Wet, cold marine with oyster and algae

Scent Profile

Symmarine smells of the sea at the shoreline: wet, cold and marine, with an oyster-shell and algae character. A metallic, mineral chill runs through it. A mossy shade sits underneath and a light ozone touch shows on top. It has no sweetness and no melon.

Materials That Can Make This Note

Smell words come from published sources.

A given perfume with this note may use this material, or something else.

Origin

Symmarine is a Symrise marine aroma chemical. A 2022 review names it 4-decylpyridine, a pyridine and not a Calone-type ketone. A Symrise patent covers 4-alkyl pyridines as marine odorants. No CAS was found.

Usage in Perfumery

Symrise presents it as a fresh marine material that adds body to drydown notes and lifts their diffusion. Perfumers use it for a wet, natural sea effect without the sweet melon side of Calone.
