About

Tea tree is steam distilled from the leaves and branchlets of Melaleuca alternifolia, a small tree from coastal New South Wales, Australia. Terpinen-4-ol dominates the oil. It smells sharply medicinal and camphoraceous, with a crisp green edge and a faint nutmeg-like spice. It reads clean and antiseptic rather than pleasant. It is used sparingly, for a medicinal lift in fougère and aromatic accords.

Scent Profile

Sharply medicinal and camphoraceous, with a crisp green freshness over a thin resinous base. It is camphoraceous but less icy and less mentholated than eucalyptus. A faint spice, close to nutmeg, runs through it. On dilution the harsh camphor recedes and a softer herbal, slightly spicy character holds.

Usage in Perfumery
