Scent Profile
Nutty leads and is the only claim both sources make independently: Fragrenza attributes the 'roasted, nutty quality' to pyrazines and ScenTree says the furan family carries 'cooked bread, nutty and caramel'. It is scored above bread (0.55) and below biscuit and baguette (0.65), because toast is more browned than a loaf but has none of the butter that carries those two. Sweet_vanillic is the caramelised crust: Fragrenza's 'sweet, caramelised' crust and maltol's 'toffee, caramel, and warm grain'. Smoky is the scorch, from 'the crust develops sweet, caramelised, slightly smoky qualities'. It is what separates this row from bread, which has no smoky at all. Coffee_cacao is ScenTree's furfural, a 'volatile and liquorous note of bitter almond' that 'can contribute to a coffee note', the roasted-bitter edge on a dark slice. Below the line, tobacco_hay for maltol's dry 'warm grain' and fruity for furaneol's strawberry-adjacent sweetness, both named once and neither corroborated.

Origin
Prepared. Not a distillate and not a single material. Every source traces the smell to one piece of chemistry, the Maillard reaction, the browning of sugars and amino acids under heat. Fragrenza names the molecules a perfumer would use to build it: pyrazines for the roasted nutty side, maltol for toffee and warm grain, furaneol for caramelised sweetness. ScenTree's entry for furfural, another product of the same reaction, corroborates from the material side and says the whole furan family reads as 'cooked bread, nutty and caramel'.
