Water Lily Leaf
Note Profile
About
The lily pad, not the flower. Crushed green leaf over cold pond water, with a smooth waxy film that most green notes do not have. It reads as an environment rather than as a plant: a green surface sitting on water. The source is explicit that it smells quite different from the water lily flower.
Scent Profile
Water Lily Leaf smells like a green surface sitting on cold water, an environment rather than a flower. The green is a crushed, cut-leaf green rather than a grassy one, and it stays through to the drydown as a faint trace. A smooth, waxy film coats the whole thing, unlike most green notes. It reads as pond and pad together, not as a bloom.
ScentWheel
Read off the wheel, not a label applied to the note.
Origin
There is no commercial essential oil or absolute of water lily leaf. Premiere Peau states this plainly. The note is a reconstruction, built from waxy-green materials such as cis-3-hexenyl acetate, aquatic materials, and lipidic-smooth synthetics. The reference is the crushed living leaf of Nymphaea, whose green tissue releases cis-3-hexenal and other cut-leaf volatiles while its wax cuticle adds the smooth part.
Usage in Perfumery
A green-aquatic modifier. It supplies pond-surface atmosphere in aquatic, green and pond-themed accords, and it is the vegetation that gives a water lily flower note somewhere to sit. Premiere Peau places it as a top-to-heart modifier rather than a lead.
