4160 Tuesdays Flawed Fern is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2026, created by Sarah McCartney. Flawed Fern opens with Kumquat, Fennel, and Basil, settles into a heart of Bergamot and Lavender, and dries down to a base of Oakmoss, Fern, and Coumarin. 4160 Tuesdays's Flawed Fern carries a Statement verdict, a green-led wear.

Flawed Fern opens bright on kumquat, fennel and basil before settling into a classic bergamot-lavender heart, drying down on mossy oakmoss and sweet coumarin. Green, herbal and genuinely unisex, not the sharp barbershop fougere you expect.

Top, heart and base are the brand's own listing, not a timing claim - the industry classifies a note by its character as much as by how fast it fades. Each curve here is modelled from that material's own volatility, so groups can overlap when a house lists long-lasting materials in its heart.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Summer Fall

Reviewers place it as a summer wear that carries into fall, and the bright citrus-herbal top supports that reading. It has enough mossy warmth in the base to carry into fall but lacks the weight for deep winter.

Best Occasions

Best For:
Casual
Also Works:
Date

Reviewers describe it as a soft, close skin scent that is 'light but long lasting' rather than a projecting statement, which fits easy everyday and date wear best. It lacks the polish or presence for formal occasions.

Declarable allergens

We derive these from the materials behind this fragrance's notes, not from the bottle. Each one is likely, not confirmed. The list is partial - the box can name others.

Other declarable allergens

  • Bergamot Citrus Aurantium Bergamia Peel Oil from Bergamot
  • Lavender Lavandula Hybrida Oil from Lavender

The large name is the everyday one. The small name is the INCI form on the box, so you can compare the two. Reactions differ between people. A patch-test panel is not a ranking of risk. How we derive this

About

Flawed Fern takes the oldest structure in menswear perfumery and pulls it sideways. Sarah McCartney built it for a friend filming a 1960s period drama, matching his bespoke suits, then deliberately broke the classic fougere formula by throwing his favourite salad ingredients on top of it. The opening is kumquat, fennel and basil, named as top notes in the brand's own copy and confirmed by wearers as the first thing that registers, an intriguing herbal-citrus hit that briefly reads almost like spearmint before settling into basil proper. Underneath, the traditional fougere skeleton holds the shape: bergamot and lavender in the heart, less sharp and medicinal than a typical lavender, then oakmoss and coumarin in the base, the mossy-aniseed pairing that gives the whole thing its cosy, aromatic warmth. Fern ties the accord together as a quiet background presence rather than a headline note. Performance reads as a close, long-lasting skin scent rather than a loud one, light but persistent through the day. It wears fresh and green in warm weather and holds up just as well once the temperature drops, a genuine spring-through-fall proposition rather than a single-season fragrance. Despite the classic fougere bones, wearers are unanimous that this reads as properly unisex rather than a masculine barbershop scent with a twist, sweet enough to appeal well beyond the traditional fougere audience without tipping into full gourmand territory. It sits closer to 4160 Tuesdays' greener, herbal releases than to the house's louder gourmands, a considered rework of a genre that rarely gets reworked.
