Aphrodite

Aphrodite goes after Initio Parfums Prives' Absolute Aphrodisiac, a fragrance whose reputation rests on an animalic, skin-hugging musk that famously smells different from person to person. White flowers and musk open the scent, followed by amber and castoreum at the heart, before vanilla and leather settle into the base. The dupe captures the broad strokes well: the musk is present and warm, and the amber-vanilla-leather base gives it real staying power. What it can't fully replicate is the original's near-alchemical skin-chemistry interaction, the quality that makes Absolute Aphrodisiac smell so intensely personal on different wearers. Aphrodite instead reads as a more straightforwardly seductive amber-musk-leather composition, still warm and magnetic, but without quite the same unpredictable, addictive quality that built Initio's cult following. At 35% extrait it projects and lasts well for an evening out.
