Duppe Scents Essence is an Eau de Parfum. Essence opens with Violet and Cardamom, settles into a heart of Papyrus and Iris, and dries down to a base of Musk, Leather, Cedar, and Sandalwood. Duppe Scents's Essence carries a Favourite verdict, a woody-led wear.

Essence draws directly on Santal 33's cardamom-violet-sandalwood signature, and the woody-leather core is a reasonably faithful echo, but the base sits flatter and less resinous than Le Labo's ambrox-driven original, so the smoky, slightly animalic depth doesn't carry through to the same degree.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Fall Winter

The woody-leather base gives it more presence in cooler weather, though the powdery cardamom-violet opening keeps it from feeling too heavy even into early spring.

Best Occasions

Best For:
Casual
Also Works:
Office Date Formal

Comforting and unisex enough for daily office wear, and equally at home in casual settings; the softened base makes it a subtle rather than statement choice for formal events.

About

Essence takes clear aim at Le Labo's Santal 33, opening with the same cardamom and violet pairing that gives the original its instantly recognisable spicy-powdery lift. The papyrus and iris in the heart nod to the original's dry, almost paper-like texture, though here it feels a touch softer and less textured. The base is where the comparison is most telling: Santal 33 built its cult reputation on a smoky, leathery sandalwood-ambrox accord that reads slightly androgynous and unmistakably its own, while Essence settles for a warmer, more conventional sandalwood-cedar-leather blend that is pleasant but more generic. It is a fair, wearable interpretation of the mood, comforting and woody without being cloying, though it trades some of the original's edge and complexity for an easier, more universally likeable finish. Works well transitioning from day into evening.
