Early Modern Ex-Libris is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2022, created by Clara Weale. Early Modern's Ex-Libris carries a Statement verdict, a woody-led wear.

A bookish, woody scent led by warm patchouli, with dry vetiver, pungent rosemary and a softer neroli accent. Wearers call it textured and mysterious; the accounts are few.

Top, heart and base are the brand's own listing, not a timing claim - the industry classifies a note by its character as much as by how fast it fades. Each curve here is modelled from that material's own volatility, so groups can overlap when a house lists long-lasting materials in its heart.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Autumn
Also Works:
Winter

One wearer says the warm, aromatic patchouli was more appreciable in autumn and winter, which is why those seasons score higher. It is a personal report, not a rule.

Best Occasions

Also Works:
Date Casual

The woody, dusty character reads as considered casual wear more than sport. No wearer names an occasion, so the others sit at moderate or low scores rather than being ruled out.

About

Ex-Libris, from the Glasgow house Early Modern and credited to Clara Weale, is built around the atmosphere of a library. The brand pictures polished wood, tangled herbs and dusty pages, and lists neroli, rosemary, patchouli and Haitian vetiver as the materials behind it. It gives no top, heart and base pyramid, so the four are treated as core notes. Wearers point most clearly to the patchouli. One calls it the hero, a warm, aromatic and almost savoury version with dry vetiver and pungent rosemary alongside. Another describes a woody, musty, dusty and slightly medicinal opening that turns towards patchouli and mildly spicy florals. A third, after trying it at a fragrance fair, named it a standout favourite and remembered polished wood, dusty pages, vetiver and patchouli. Together these support a textured, bookish character. The scent was released in 2022 and is described as unisex. Wearers who scored it give moderate figures for how long it lasts and how far it carries, and one says it came into its own for them in autumn and winter. Those are personal impressions from a small group, not a promise of hours or projection. Ex-Libris suits wearers who like patchouli served dry, herbal and slightly dusty rather than sweet. A sample will show whether the library atmosphere works for you.
