Signatures No I is Maison Alhambra's overt nod to Guerlain's Cuir Intense, opening with a soft osmanthus-and-ylang ylang accord that gives the leather a creamy, almost sweet introduction. The opening is the gentlest part of the composition, where the apricot-tinged osmanthus and the floral ylang ylang temper the leather promise. The heart pulls in leather supported by musk, building a clean, slightly powdery accord that community sources describe as leather taking on a clean connotation thanks to the musk, though that cleanness does not last long. It is not as transparent or technically polished as the Cuir Intense's leather treatment, but the DNA reads recognisably across the first two hours. The dry-down is where Signatures No I diverges most from the Guerlain. Tobacco, sandalwood and cedar pull the leather into a wilder, more animalic and rough character, with community sources describing it as an extremely rough and sensual leather by the dry-down. The Guerlain stays cleaner; Signatures No I leans into the dirtier leather reading that the Maison Alhambra house style favours.
