Royal Blue Oud

Perfume Parlour Royal Blue Oud is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2023. Royal Blue Oud opens with Blackcurrant, Mandarin, and Pink Pepper, settles into a heart of Frankincense and Amber, and dries down to a base of Oud, Leather, Oak, and Sandalwood. Perfume Parlour's Royal Blue Oud carries a Statement verdict, a woody-led wear.

A budget take on Amouage Opus XV King Blue, Royal Blue Oud carries the same fruity-citrus opening over an oud-leather base. The catch, per reviewers, is divergence: the mandarin runs louder and longer here, while the original's dark, barnyard oud reads much tamer.

About

Royal Blue Oud opens on the bright, fresh burst that defines Amouage Opus XV King Blue - black currant and mandarin laced with pink pepper - radiating fruity citrus. In the original, that brightness is almost immediately pulled into shadow by a barnyard-tinged oud and smoky frankincense; the budget dupe tells a different story. Reviewers consistently flag that the mandarin overpowers and lingers for hours, while the dark, animalic oud opening that makes the Amouage so distinctive is largely missing - here the heart's frankincense and amber stay softer and the smoky depth is dialled right back. The base does eventually reach the woody-oriental signature - oud, leather, oak, sandalwood and chocolaty patchouli - giving a long, warm drydown, but it is smoother and less challenging than the niche original's barnyard intensity. This is a clear case of dupe-divergence: cheaper, brighter facets up; the expensive, polarising oud down. Still, for a budget price it delivers a bold, citrus-forward woody with genuine staying power. A confident woody-oriental for cooler-weather evenings, best for those who actually prefer their oud tamed.
