Pineward Perfumes Murkwood is an Extrait de Parfum launched in 2020, created by Nicholas Nilsson. Pineward Perfumes's Murkwood carries an Acquired verdict, a musk-led wear.

This is a photorealistic, dark forest in a bottle - but it's a divisive one. You'll either get evocative, mystical woods or, for some unlucky few, A1 steak sauce. Definitely not a blind buy, but if it works for you, it's an absolute masterpiece.

Top, heart and base are the brand's own listing, not a timing claim - the industry classifies a note by its character as much as by how fast it fades. Each curve here is modelled from that material's own volatility, so groups can overlap when a house lists long-lasting materials in its heart.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Fall Winter

A cold-weather scent - best worn in winter and autumn.

Best Occasions

Best For:
Casual
Also Works:
Date

Its long-lasting nature and moderate sillage mean it might be too much for an office, but it's perfect for casual outings, especially at night or in colder weather. The mystical, dark forest vibe lends itself well to a unique date night scent, while its intensity makes it less suitable for formal events or sport.

About

Murkwood opens with a bold, almost mentholated blast of Canadian fir, instantly transporting you to a dense, damp woodland. Soon, a smoky lapsang souchong tea note emerges, intertwining with the deep, resinous facets of myrrh and incense, adding a liturgical, almost ancient feel. As it dries down, the scent settles into a dark, earthy base of black hemlock and moss, conjuring the image of old growth and forest floors, with a lingering smoky sweetness.
