Sources highlight Doyen’s frequent use of natural materials and a taste for unconventional, sometimes offbeat accords. Her compositions often draw on memories of travel, marine atmospheres and lush, garden-like florals, reflecting her early years in Tahiti. Within niche perfumery she is associated with textured, atmospheric scents and has worked extensively with green, resinous and floral notes, as seen in creations such as Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakélite and her contributions to avant-garde projects like Les Nez.
Isabelle Doyen is a French perfumer who spent much of her childhood in Tahiti before returning to France to study perfumery at ISIPCA in Versailles, where she enrolled in 1979 and graduated in 1982. After school she began working as an independent perfumer and collaborated in creation with her former professor Monique Schlienger. In 1985 she met Annick Goutal, initiating a long-term collaboration during which she co-created most of the brand’s fragrances and later continued composing for the house with Annick’s daughter, Camille Goutal. Doyen also taught olfactory training at ISIPCA, where she helped train notable perfumers including Francis Kurkdjian and Mathilde Laurent. In 1993 she and Annick Goutal founded Aromatique Majeur, an independent creative company developing fragrances primarily for the Goutal brand. Following the sale of the Annick Goutal brand to Interparfums in 2025, she co-founded the niche house Voyages Imaginaires with Camille Goutal.
