Eris Parfums
NYC indie house blending vintage-inspired boldness with modern niche aesthetics.
Eris Parfums is an independent niche fragrance house founded in 2016 by writer and vintage perfume expert Barbara Herman in New York City.[1][5][6] The brand grew out of Herman's years of collecting and researching 20th century perfumes, first through her blog Yesterday's Perfume and then her book "Scent and Subversion: Decoding a Century of Provocative Perfume," which examined bolder historical styles through a critical lens.[1][5][6]
After interviewing perfumer Antoine Lie for her book, Herman asked him to collaborate on a line that would revive the daring character she admired in older compositions while remaining wearable today.[1][5][6] Since launch, Lie has been the perfumer behind the full Eris Parfums catalog, including early releases like Ma Bête, Belle de Jour, and Night Flower (all 2016), as well as later fragrances such as Mx., Green Spell, and Delta of Venus.[1][2][4]
The brand takes its name from Eris, the Greek goddess associated with discord and disruption, reflecting its focus on unconventional beauty and a slightly transgressive aesthetic.[1][5][7][9] Many Eris perfumes highlight animalic nuances, dense florals, green facets, and textural musks rather than clean or crowd-pleasing accords, appealing to fragrance enthusiasts who enjoy characterful compositions with a vintage-informed sensibility.
Eris Parfums distributes primarily through its own website and a small network of specialist retailers, positioning itself clearly within the niche segment rather than mainstream designer channels.[1][4][10] Production centers on eau de parfum strengths, typically in 50 ml formats, with occasional limited editions that showcase rare or labor-intensive materials.[3][4]
A niche, luxury house known for animalic compositions.
Since its 2016 debut with Ma Bête, Belle de Jour, and Night Flower, Eris Parfums has gradually expanded from overtly animalic and floral-oriental styles into fresher and more playful directions, such as the green focus of Green Spell and the tropical-floral character of Delta of Venus.[1][2][3][4][8] The underlying aesthetic, however, remains consistent: compositions continue to emphasize bold structure, vintage references, and sensual materials, even when themes become lighter or more modern. Limited and small-batch releases, including tinctured-material projects, suggest a willingness to experiment within a tight, concept-driven catalog.[4][8]
Eris Parfums is a high-character indie house for people who find most mainstream launches too polite. If you enjoy vintage-style boldness, animalic nuances, and a clearly authored point of view, this line is worth serious exploration.
