About

Green, heady floral with earthy and hay-like facets

Scent Profile

Narcissus has a rich, green floral scent with pronounced earthy and hay-like undertones. Its aroma is both heady and slightly animalic, with subtle hints of tobacco and a delicate sweetness that emerges over time. The note evolves from fresh green facets to a deeper, more powdery and musky drydown.

Origin

Narcissus absolute is primarily extracted from the flowers of Narcissus poeticus, grown in France and the Balkans. The flowers are harvested by hand and processed through solvent extraction to yield a highly concentrated absolute. Due to the low yield and labor-intensive harvesting, it is considered a rare and costly perfumery material.

Usage in Perfumery

Perfumers use narcissus mainly as a heart note to impart depth and complexity to floral compositions. It blends well with other white florals, green notes, and animalic accords, and is often found in classic chypres and vintage-inspired fragrances. Its distinctive character can also add a naturalistic or slightly wild nuance to modern blends.
