Pleasing
Celebrity led, gender neutral fragrances built around fabric, skin and modern woods.
Pleasing is a gender-neutral lifestyle and beauty brand created by English singer and songwriter Harry Styles, launched on 15 November 2021 after a trademark filing for his holding company Pleased As Holdings earlier that year. The brand began with nail polishes, skincare and basic makeup, positioned around self expression that does not rely on conventional beauty rules. It operates primarily as a direct-to-consumer label through its own website, with additional distribution via select retailers such as Selfridges in London, Space NK for fragrance, and Pleasing-branded stores in New York and Los Angeles.
In 2023 Pleasing expanded into perfume with a debut trio of unisex eau de parfums - Bright, Hot, Closeness and Rivulets - created with perfumer Jérôme Epinette and the French fragrance house Robertet. The fragrances were introduced at Selfridges and online at a launch price of about $135, and are described by the brand as genderless scents built around warm woods, fresh florals, comforting vanilla and vibrant citrus. The compositions lean into contemporary notes such as tobacco leaf and plum for Bright, Hot, clean sheets accords and orris butter in Closeness, and lemon, black pepper and poplin or white linen style accords in Rivulets.
Pleasing’s fragrance line sits at the intersection of pop culture celebrity branding and modern niche-style perfumery, focusing on texture-driven accords like "clean sheets" and skin musks rather than traditional masculine or feminine archetypes. The brand keeps the range tight and seasonal, surfacing limited collaborations and capsule collections around its core perfume launch, and distributing primarily through its own channels and a small set of fashion-forward retailers rather than mass market chains.
Because Pleasing is owned outright by Styles via Pleased As Holdings Limited, the brand can move quickly between categories - from nail polish to apparel to fragrance - while maintaining control over its aesthetic and pricing. Its fragrance project is presented as one facet of a broader lifestyle vision that plays on Styles’ public image, but with formulas developed by established industry partners to give the scents technical credibility alongside their celebrity appeal.
A celebrity, premium house known for woody amber compositions.
Pleasing began as a beauty and nail brand, then added apparel capsules before moving into fragrance in 2023. The scent line pushed the brand firmly into gender neutral perfumery with fully developed compositions rather than simple body mists. Retail expansion has been selective, focusing on Selfridges, Space NK and Pleasing’s own stores and pop ups rather than mass distribution. As of mid 2020s the direction is toward an edited lifestyle universe anchored by Harry Styles’ image and periodic product drops instead of a broad permanent catalog.
Pleasing’s scents are solidly composed, contemporary celebrity perfumes that feel more thought through than most pop star launches but still priced at a clear fan premium. If you connect with Harry Styles’ aesthetic and want gender neutral, fabric focused woods and musks, they are worth sampling; if you are chasing boundary pushing niche, you will likely find them safe.
