About

Cacao blossom is the flower of the chocolate tree, and it does not smell of chocolate. The only source found that describes it says the flowers are 'tiny, waxy, and barely fragrant' and that no commercial extraction exists. The note in a fragrance is a fantasy accord: a quiet floral with a fermented, overripe-fruit edge and a distant cocoa warmth borrowed from the tree it grows on.

Floral leads, but quietly. The source calls the florality 'whisper-quiet' and says 'you register warmth and moisture rather than identifiable flower character', so the facet is the strongest thing present rather than a strong thing. Sour is the 'fermentative undertone, like fruit left slightly too long', named twice and treated by the source as the honest character of the real flower. Coffee_cacao is the 'distant cocoa association' plus the cocoa-adjacent materials the accord is actually built from. It is held well below `cacao-pod`, `cacao-shell` and `cacao-butter` because the source is blunt that 'cacao flowers smell nothing like chocolate'. Fruity is the overripe fruit the ferment reads as, described as 'more overripe fruit than cocoa bar'. Origin

The cauliflorous flower of Theobroma cacao, borne directly on the trunk and pollinated by midges 1-3 mm long. Fewer than 5% of flowers set fruit. No absolute, oil or extract of the flower is sold. Perfumery builds the note from light floral synthetics plus cocoa-adjacent materials such as cocoa absolute and phenylacetic acid, aiming at 'flower on a chocolate tree' rather than a chocolate-scented flower.

Usage in Perfumery

Used in chocolate-themed, tropical and unusual floral compositions, where it links a floral heart to a gourmand base without adding real cocoa weight. Measured on 2026-08-23: 8 Fragrantica perfumes, filed under Flowers, and no Parfumo placements. Fragrantica carries no prose for it.
