About

Cacao blossom is the flower of the chocolate tree. It does not smell of chocolate. The flowers of cultivated cacao are tiny, waxy and almost scentless, and no extract is sold. In a fragrance the note is a fantasy accord: a quiet floral with a fermented, overripe-fruit edge and a distant cocoa warmth.

Cacao Blossom smells like a quiet, barely-there flower, more warmth and moisture than a clear bloom. It is faintly waxy. A sour, fermented edge runs through it, like fruit left a touch too long. There is a distant, faint cocoa warmth, more overripe fruit than cocoa bar, with a faint sweet trace at the end. It stays hushed throughout.

Origin

The cauliflorous flower of Theobroma cacao, borne directly on the trunk and pollinated by midges 1-3 mm long. Fewer than 5% of flowers set fruit. No absolute, oil or extract of the flower is sold. Perfumery builds the note from light floral synthetics plus cocoa-adjacent materials such as cocoa absolute and phenylacetic acid, aiming at 'flower on a chocolate tree' rather than a chocolate-scented flower.

Usage in Perfumery

Used in chocolate-themed, tropical and unusual floral compositions, where it links a floral heart to a gourmand base without adding real cocoa weight. It is rare: 9 perfumes on Fragrantica on 2026-10-10, filed under flowers, and none on Parfumo on 2026-08-23.
