About

Cachaca is the Brazilian spirit distilled from fresh sugarcane juice rather than molasses. The note follows the drink. It is grassy and boozy together, with tropical fruit behind, and the aged version adds a tonka-like sweetness from Brazilian amburana wood that no other cane spirit carries.

Scent Profile

Cachaça smells like a distilled cane spirit, boozy at its core. Fresh sugarcane gives it a bright, grassy green edge rather than the softer, sweeter smell of molasses rum. Behind that sits a hint of tropical fruit. The aged version adds a sweet, vanilla-and-cinnamon warmth from ageing in amburana wood, with hints of oak and a coumarin sweetness close to liquid tonka bean underneath.

A fantasy accord, not a material. Cachaca is fermented and distilled from pressed sugarcane juice, sold unaged as white cachaca or aged in barrels. The United States classes it as a type of rum and a distinctive product of Brazil. Its distinguishing practice is the use of native Brazilian woods for ageing, chiefly amburana (Amburana cearensis), whose coumarin gives the spirit a vanilla-and-cinnamon character. Some producers age for up to 15 years. No house sells a cachaca-specific base.

Usage in Perfumery

Used where a boozy note is wanted with fresh cane grass rather than dark sugar, and in Brazilian or caipirinha-themed builds.
