Fig tree bark is the dry woody part of the fig accord, set against the fruit, the leaf and the milky sap. Nomad Noe describe it as 'a white wood with creamy, powdery and musky overtones'. It is not a raw material. Fragrenza state that perfumers build the bark facet from cedarwood, because fig yields no bark oil.

Scent Profile

Dry woody leads and it is the only claim all four sources make. Nomad Noe's 'white wood', Sonoma's 'woody, warm and soft', Carrement Belle's 'deeper, woodier dimension' and Fragrenza's cedarwood build all point one way. Creamy woody and powdery come from Nomad Noe alone, the only source that gives the bark its own three-word profile, so both carry a spread. Amber resinous has two sources behind it: Fragrenza's 'dry-resinous quality of the bark' and Carrement Belle's 'can recall notes of amber'. Clean musk is the musky in those same two sources, held down because neither writer means an animalic musk. Green and no higher. Only the Ficus sycomorus line mentions green, and the green of a fig accord belongs to the leaf, which is already published at green. Sweet vanillic is the warm and soft of the Sonoma review and nothing more.

Origin

The bark of Ficus carica and related species. Nothing is distilled or extracted from it commercially, unlike cedarwood or oakmoss. Every source found describes what the word bark is meant to do inside a composition rather than giving a direct sensory account of the plant part. Attested on Parfumo in 3 fragrances, but across 1 brand only.

Usage in Perfumery

Used as the drydown of a fig composition. A Sonoma Scent Studio customer writes that 'the dry-down is the tree bark. It's woody, warm and soft.' Carrement Belle describe it as the counterweight that balances the green and fruity parts of a fig. In practice it is a cedar-type dry wood holding up the rest of the accord.
