About

Boisiris is a Givaudan aroma chemical. It is a dry wood carrying a powdery orris accent, with warm ambery and tobacco undertones behind it. Givaudan's own wording puts the order beyond doubt: a woody chemical with an orris note, not an iris chemical with a woody note. It is not orris and it does not try to be. It borrows the powdery top of iris and leaves out the earthy, sometimes metallic body of the real root.

Dry_woody leads because every source leads with it, including the manufacturer. Powdery is the orris accent, named by all four sources and the reason the molecule exists, but it sits clearly under the wood rather than beside it. Amber_resinous is the 'ambery' undertone that TheGoodScentsCompany's aggregated listings and Fraterworks both name independently. Tobacco_hay is the tobacco undertone, also named by two sources rather than one supplier's marketing voice. Floral is the violet-iris touch Superfumista reports and the 'orris floral' in one of the trade listings, kept low because only two sources mention any floral character at all. Below, creamy_woody and sweet_vanillic are the soft edge that keeps the wood from reading as pencil shavings.

Origin

A synthetic molecule made by Givaudan and sold under the trade name Boisiris. Firmenich sells the same material as Physeol, and Tadimety Aromatics lists it too, so it reaches perfumers under more than one name. There is no natural source. The Good Scents Company aggregates all three suppliers' odour descriptions under one entry and they agree on the same four words: woody, ambery, orris, tobacco.

Usage in Perfumery

A base-note woody with a built-in powder. Perfumers use it where a straight cedar or vetiver would read too raw and where real orris would be too expensive or too earthy. Fraterworks places it as a woody-orris foundation. It is attested on 3 Fragrantica perfumes and 1 Parfumo entry, so this is a working perfumer's material rather than a widely-printed note name.
