Scent Profile

Fruity leads and is the whole point of the note. Premiere Peau names it twice over: 'sweet and tart' and 'comparable to ripe mango and crisp green apple'. Sour is the tart half of that pair and it is the one facet two independent sources agree on. Premiere Peau says 'tart undertones' and the Fragrantica group prose says 'acidic'. Tropical is the mango comparison plus the fruit itself, which is a lowland tropical crop. Citrus sits above what Premiere Peau alone would justify, because Premiere Peau calls it only a 'nuance' while Fragrantica leads with 'citrus-aromatic'. Two sources naming it lifts it out of trace. Green is the crisp green apple half of the comparison, so it is a cut-fruit green rather than a leaf green. Below the line, floral and earthy are the drydown stages Premiere Peau describes and nothing else corroborates them.

Origin

Hog Plum is the fruit of Spondias mombin, a tree of the cashew family native to tropical America and West Africa. It is also sold as caja, taperebá and yellow mombin. Despite the name it is not a plum. Prunus and Spondias are different families, so this note has no botanical link to the published `plum`. Premiere Peau states that no standard commercial hog plum essential oil or absolute exists. The note used in perfumery is therefore a synthetic recreation of the fruit, not a captured extract.

Usage in Perfumery

Used as a bright tropical top accent, usually alongside mango, passion fruit or citrus. Premiere Peau describes a three-stage arc: bright juicy sweetness, then softening into floral nuances, then a residual earthy sweetness. Fragrantica's group prose calls it 'citrus-aromatic, acidic, sunny and long-lasting', which is the same shape seen from the other end.
