About

Rose otto distilled in Iran. It is the same Rosa damascena as the Bulgarian and Turkish ottos, and the trade sells it as the brightest and dewiest of them: a pink-toned rose opening with a clear lemon lift, a thick honeyed heart, and a green rosy base.

Scent Profile

Floral and both supplier listings lead with it: 'fulsome rich dewy rose' and 'an exceptionally bright rose profile in the opening, very pink orientated'. Honeyed is the second facet in both, named directly as 'sweet honey' in the heart and as 'honey in the back', and reinforced by 'opulent syrupy rose sensations'. Citrus is unusually high for a rose and it is earned: lemon appears three times across the two listings, 'fresh lemon scented rosy qualities' in the opening, 'fresh lemon notes' in the heart, and 'a tint of citrus' in the other production. Green is the base, which one listing describes as entirely green: 'The base notes are all of a bright green rosy character'. Below the naming line sit sweet_vanillic for the syrupy body, powdery, warm_spice, fruity and aromatic_herbal for the 'geranium rose' the heart is compared to.

Origin

Rosa damascena grown in central Iran, mainly the Kashan region. Flowering runs from May to about mid-June. Whole flowers, petals and sepals together, are water-steam distilled to a clear otto. Iran, Bulgaria and Turkey are the three major producers of rose oil from this species, so the geographic label marks terroir and distillation practice, not a different plant.

Usage in Perfumery

Attested on 14 Parfumo entries across 9 brands, with no Fragrantica note listing found. Sold by suppliers as a rose accord base and a floraliser, and recommended with neroli, orange blossom, synthetic musks, ambrette, sandalwood and clean ouds.
