About

Wild-harvested pinyon pine oil. It has the resinous, woody, coniferous body every pine note carries, but it also has a fruity, peach-like top and a buttery back note. All five suppliers name a fruity or peach note, and one calls the creamy nuance 'unlike any other conifer oil'.

Scent Profile

Pinyon pine smells resinous and ambery at its core, the deep resin base that runs through the whole oil. A dry, woody, coniferous body sits right alongside it. What sets it apart from other pines is a soft, peach-like fruity top and a green, fresh-needle freshness. A creamy, lactonic, buttery nuance runs underneath, closer to pine nuts than to any other conifer oil.

Origin

The name is also written pinon or pinyon nut pine, and the tree is the source of the edible pine nut. Enfleurage names ethyl caprylate as the compound behind the fruity character. That attribution comes from trade copy, not from a published analysis.

Used where a conifer base needs to be soft rather than sharp. It gives forest and desert accords a resinous floor with a fruity lift on top, and it holds through a dry-down that suppliers call long and soft.
