Saffron is the dried stigma of the Crocus sativus flower. No supplier offers a saffron flower material that we could find, so the note is an accord or a name for saffron itself. A 2024 headspace study found safranal, the molecule behind the saffron smell, to be the most abundant volatile in saffron flowers.

Usage in Perfumery

A heart note. Parfumo lists 79 perfumes with it, from 1996 to 2026. Many are leather, oud or tobacco scents, such as J.F. Schwarzlose Leder 6 and Houbigant Tabac Nomade. Les Soeurs de Noe Saffron Flower pairs it with jasmine, leather, sandalwood and vanilla.
