Sangria is a fruit-and-wine punch note. A red wine base carries macerated red berries, orange and stone fruit, sugared and lifted by a little warm spice. It is not the published red wine note with a new name. In sangria the fruit is the larger half, and both sources say so.

Scent Profile

Fruity leads. Both sources put fruit first in the sequence and name the same fruits: 'the sweetness of ripe fruits like berries, citrus, and possibly apple or peach', and 'a burst of fruity aromas, reminiscent of ripe berries and citrus'. Boozy is the wine, and it is the anchor rather than the loudest facet. Nottier calls it 'red wine undertones', The Perfume Society calls it a 'prominent red wine note' and adds rum. It is set below the published red wine's 0.72 because sangria is wine already cut with fruit and soda, which is the whole difference between the two notes. Citrus is named by both sources on its own and is the visible signature of the drink, the orange slices in the pitcher. Sweet_vanillic is the added sugar that both sources call sweetness. Warm_spice is the cinnamon the drink is traditionally made with, and The Perfume Society names 'hints of spice' directly, but only as a trailing facet, so it stays low. Under the line: sour for the wine's tartness, dry_woody for the 'woody notes' that emerge late, aldehydic for the 'effervescence' Nottier names, and a trace of earthy carried over from the wine base.

Origin

There is no sangria material. No supplier sells a sangria oil or absolute, and both sources describe it as an accord perfumers build from wine, red-fruit, citrus and spice materials. The drink it names is Spanish: red wine cut with chopped fruit, citrus, sugar and often brandy or soda water.
