Sound 2

Sound 2 is one of three scents in the SOUND range from the London house Aequill, designed in 2022 by sound artist Ecka Mordecai. It comes from an early morning by Regent's Canal, standing under a yellow mimosa tree as birds sang and passers-by laughed. The artist says the sound of it was pure joy and she wanted to bottle it at once. It opens bright and sunny: Sicilian citrus and mimosa, with a thread of honey and a pinch of saffron. The heart is a cluster of white and yellow flowers, with jasmine, narcissus and magnolia and a green violet leaf for balance. The base is soft: cedarwood and amber, kept light so the flowers stay in front, like cool shadows under the tree. Votes are almost non-existent, so wear and projection are a judgement from the brand's picture of a lively, uplifting scent. The first wearer votes point to summer and daytime, and it makes sense for casual wear, a bright office day or a weekend. It is joyful rather than seductive and is not aimed at formal evenings. The artist says she designed it for feeling, not for a gender. It sells for 126 pounds in the brand's shop, in a limited edition bottle designed by a fine artist. It suits anyone who likes a sunny floral with citrus and a little honey; with so few reviews, try a sample first.
