Sound 3

Sound 3 is the third scent in the SOUND range from the London house Aequill, designed in 2022 by sound artist Ecka Mordecai. Its theme is silence, and the artist says she found people who were silent were loud in other ways, in their style and the intensity of their eyes. She called the result the strong silent type, and the finished scent is the opposite of silence: seductive, sultry and unapologetic. It opens on soft citrus: bergamot, grapefruit and mandarin. The heart pairs neroli and orange blossom with rosewood, so the flowers stay clean and slightly woody. The base is the main event: an exuberant myrrh with precious woods, white musk and amber, which the brand says leaves scent trails, distant and magnetic. Votes are almost non-existent, so wear and projection are a judgement from the brand's picture of a magnetic, polarising scent. By its resins and woods it suits autumn and winter best, and it fits evenings and dates better than a quiet office. The only wearer rating we found is low, calling the lemon opening harsh, so expect a scent that divides noses. The artist says she designed for feeling, not for a gender. It sells for 126 pounds in the brand's shop, in a limited edition bottle designed by a fine artist. It suits anyone who wants a clean but resinous scent with presence; with so few reviews, try a sample first.
