Origin

Traditionally, rosewood oil is distilled from the wood of Aniba rosaeodora, a tree native to the Amazon rainforest. Due to conservation concerns, natural rosewood is now rare, and sustainable or synthetic alternatives are increasingly used in perfumery.

Usage in Perfumery

Perfumers employ rosewood primarily in the heart or top of compositions to impart a soft, floral-woody character. It blends well with floral notes like rose and jasmine, as well as other woods and citrus, and is valued for its ability to round out sharp edges in blends.

Notable Perfumers

Perfumers known for using Rosewood include Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud , Christine Nagel , Dominique Ropion , Nathalie Lorson , Olivier Cresp , and Alberto Morillas .
