Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab Embalming Fluid is a perfume oil. Embalming Fluid opens with Lemon and Aloe Vera, settles into a heart of Green Tea, and dries down to a base of Clean Musk. Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab's Embalming Fluid carries a Statement verdict, a green-led wear.

A light, clean oil of white musk, green tea, aloe and lemon. Fresh, breezy and the opposite of most dark BPAL scents, with moderate wear. Best in spring and summer.

Top, heart and base are the pyramid as published, not a timing claim. Each note's timing follows its listed tier, where it usually sits across many published pyramids (from ScentPrism) and its vapour pressure. A note comes through as the notes usually listed before it fade, judged from how other pyramids order the same pair. The thickness of a ribbon shows the note's share of what is left on the skin, which tracks how strongly it smells, because odour thresholds rise with vapour pressure. The shares come from how prominent wearers vote each note. It is a simple model, not a measurement.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Spring Summer

Spring and summer, almost entirely. Lemon, green tea and aloe are crisp and cooling, and there is nothing warm or sweet to carry it into winter.

Best Occasions

Best For:
Office Casual
Also Works:
Sport

A light, clean, day-only scent suits the office and casual wear well. It is too soft for a date or a formal night, and it is fresh enough for a warm workout.

About

Embalming Fluid is one of the oldest Black Phoenix oils and a surprise in a catalogue known for dark incense and sweet vanilla. The house describes a light, pure scent: white musk, green tea, aloe and lemon. It is clean and fresh. The lemon has a pure bite with enough sweetness to stop it turning sour, like the best lemonade ever made. The blend is breezy, green and easy, clean while still interesting, a little like bubble baths and childhood summers. It avoids smelling like a salad or cut grass, with a bit of wood or musk underneath. The trade-off is wear time. Longevity is moderate to weak and sillage intimate to moderate, and it sits firmly in spring and summer by day. It is not a perfume to carry through a long evening, so expect to reapply, and its lightness makes it an easy office or warm-weather scent. The oil comes in a 5 ml vial with a 1/32 oz sample, and the house also sells it as a bath oil and hair gloss. For anyone who knows BPAL only for heavy, gothic blends, this is the fresh, clean outlier to try first.
