Eden's No.197 is built on the same fresh, sporty template as Zadig & Voltaire's This Is Him, opening with a cool, watery cantaloupe-melon accord that quickly brightens into light mandarin citrus, just as the original does. A touch of basil keeps the heart from turning too sweet, and the fragrance stays clean and unfussy rather than complex, mirroring the original's easy, all-rounder character. The base brings suede and generic woody notes for an earthy touch, standing in for the original's more refined leather-and-cedar base - the effect is similar in shape but noticeably softer and less textured up close. Performance is the main gap versus the designer version: where This Is Him has respectable longevity for a fresh fragrance, this alternative fades within a few hours and needs reapplication for longer days.
