In Between No 4 Hair Mist

In Between is Lengling's study of the moment between girlhood and womanhood, and the two accords are named exactly that: youth and maturity. As a hair mist the composition works better than it has any right to, because floral and fruity materials cling to hair and lift again every time it moves. Peach opens it, soft and skin-like rather than syrupy, and it is the note that carries the youth half along with a powdery violet. Lily of the valley adds a green, dewy transparency that keeps the first half hour from feeling heavy. Jasmine sambac absolute is the centre, and it is generous: the brand calls it the blooming fullness of Arabian jasmine, and it brings a warm, slightly indolic richness that is unmistakably grown-up next to the fruit. Underneath, patchouli, vanilla absolute, rosewood and musk supply a soft, faintly woody cushion rather than a proper base. Expect three to five hours, normal for a hair mist, with gentle projection that refreshes on movement. Spring and warm summer days are its season. It is easy to wear day to day, comfortable in an office, and genuinely good on a date, though it is not weighty enough to anchor a formal evening. Like the rest of the hair range it also carries panthenol, humectants and UV protection.
