Naughton & Wilson Chypre Fulminare is an Eau de Parfum launched in 2022, created by John Stephen. Chypre Fulminare opens with Lemon, Orange, Lime, and Ylang-Ylang, settles into a heart of Leather, Pepper, and Incense, and dries down to a base of Vetiver, Oakmoss, Castoreum, and Labdanum. Naughton & Wilson's Chypre Fulminare carries a Statement verdict, a fresh-led wear.

An old-school masculine chypre: oakmoss and relentless vetiver under pepper, incense and a citrus and ylang-ylang opening, with a dash of animalic castoreum. Long-lasting and moderate in projection, it suits autumn and winter evenings, though a few wearers find it medicinal.

Top, heart and base are the brand's own listing, not a timing claim - the industry classifies a note by its character as much as by how fast it fades. Each curve here is modelled from that material's own volatility, so groups can overlap when a house lists long-lasting materials in its heart.

When To Wear

Best Seasons

Best For:
Spring Autumn Winter

Autumn and winter lead the votes, with spring close behind, on a dense oakmoss, vetiver and incense base. Summer is clearly the weakest season.

Best Occasions

Best For:
Date Formal
Also Works:
Office Casual

Night out, daily and evening wear lead the platform votes and wearers call it a shirt and tie scent. Moderate projection keeps it workable for business, though the dense base reads best in the evening.

About

Chypre Fulminare is the chypre from Naughton and Wilson. Its name is Latin for striking like lightning, and the brand describes a bold, dynamic scent with a sense of strident self-confidence and sophistication. English perfumer John Stephen built it as a chypre in the classic masculine mould. The opening is bright and slightly buttery: lemon, lime and orange with a forward ylang-ylang. Pepper and incense soon move in and smooth the ylang-ylang out, with a leather note that some wearers find dry and others find only faintly in the background. The base is where the chypre shows itself, with oakmoss and vetiver leading, labdanum and ambergris behind them and a trace of castoreum adding an animalic edge. Wearers describe a green, mossy, slightly bitter chypre rather than a fruity one. Longevity is a strength, and most wearers report long wear with projection at arm's length. It belongs to autumn and winter, works through spring, and is a poor choice for summer. It reads best in the evening and for a night out, though wearers also call it a shirt and tie scent for business. The vote is firmly masculine and wearers describe it as mature and old school. Opinion is divided on the opening, which a few find medicinal, so sample it before buying the 100 ml bottle, which the brand lists as awaiting restock.
