British founder-led house for classic masculine perfumery: fougères, chypres and aromatic citrus, all by John Stephen

About Naughton & Wilson

Naughton & Wilson is a British fragrance house created by Dan Naughton, an English YouTube fragrance reviewer, and Matt Wilson, a Scottish fragrance entrepreneur. Naughton set out in 2019 to make perfumes in the classic masculine styles he reviews, citrus aromatics, chypres and aromatic fougères, and funded the first release with a Kickstarter campaign in late 2019.

The first scent, Gravitas Pour Homme, was made with the English perfumer John Stephen and reached customers in 2020. It is a classic aromatic fougère with lavender, mandarin and bergamot, coriander, cardamom and pepper, and a base of patchouli, oakmoss, ambergris and vanilla. John Stephen is named as the perfumer on every release since, and the range has grown to seven eau de parfums made in the UK. Bon Viveur is a citrus chypre with a twist of British gin. Chypre Fulminare is a bold chypre with castoreum and ambergris. Gravitas Essentia adds mint to the fougère. Arezzo is an opulent Tuscan-inspired scent with brandy, tobacco and oud, and Old Money weaves aged spirits, tobacco and suede. Corteggio, from 2026, is a Mediterranean citrus aromatic.

The house style is formal, polished and traditionally masculine, though it is no longer a single idea: chypres, a gin-scented citrus and a fresh summer aromatic now sit alongside the fougères, and Chypre Fulminare is listed as unisex.

Naughton & Wilson sits in independent British perfumery. It is a small, founder-led house that sells through its own website, with shipping across the UK, the EU and the US. It suits wearers who like classic gentlemanly perfume and want a modern house that still treats the fougère and the chypre seriously.

Brand Evolution

The house began in 2019 with a Kickstarter plan from reviewer Dan Naughton. Gravitas Pour Homme launched in 2020, followed by Bon Viveur, Chypre Fulminare, Gravitas Essentia, Arezzo and Old Money, and Corteggio in 2026. The range has widened from one fougère to chypres, a citrus aromatic and a unisex chypre, with 30ml travel editions added for each.

Quick Verdict

A focused British house for anyone who enjoys classic masculine perfumery. Gravitas Pour Homme is the signature, Chypre Fulminare the boldest, and Corteggio the lightest summer option.
